Akasha Richmond recently opened Sambar, next door to her first Culver City restaurant, Akasha.  Leslie and I were invited in to check out the lunch menu!

The inside and outside are beautiful…

…and so is the food!  Indian cuisine “interpreted through through a California lens.”

At the friendly server’s suggestion, we got two appetizers to start – the Sevpuri Chaat (Avocado, Green Mango, and Chutney on Teff Puris)…

… and Quinoa Pancake with Sambar.  For those of you (like me) who don’t know, the restaurant’s namesake dish is a vegetarian soup/stew – unique to every South Indian home.
