Chinese New Year is in a week. This year, it falls on Monday, January 23rd, 2012 and it’s the year of the Dragon. You know those placemats you get at Chinese restaurants with the Zodiac calendar and what animal you are by your year of birth? Well, for all you 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, and 2012 birthdays, it’s your year! Sorry I didn’t go beyond 1940, I don’t know what age group reads this lol
Chinese New Year is the most important traditional Chinese holiday. It’s a day full of celebration and feasting, it’s a day (and it’s usually on a Sunday or the eve before actual Chinese New Year) in the U.S. because we aren’t actually in Asia to get the days off because it’s not an official holiday here. In Asian countries, it’s a week-long celebration where workers get the entire week off (which is why if you notice that if you order something around Chinese New Year, they say something along the lines of how it’ll be delayed because of the Chinese holiday).
