SMOOTHIE BUILDING 101

the art of smoothie building

Making a smoothie seems pretty easy, throw some fruit in, put a liquid in, maybe some greens, a supplement or two and blend right? Kind of. You can do that and chances are it will turn out all right, but there is a bit of a science to the perfect superfood smoothie Let me share my technique!

1. Find A Base

This can be anything, you can get creative. The base will set the consistency and over all tone of the smoothie. If you choose almond milk or nut milk, it will be creamier and richer, if you choose coconut water, sweeter and more watery, if you choose green juice, not as sweet and a bit watery…you get it!  Below are my favorites.

Almond Milk

Coconut Water

Beet Juice

Green Juice

Cold Pressed Cranberry Juice

Water

2. What’s In Your Core?

4. Flavor Balancing

To make a really awesome flavorful smoothie, you have to have a nice blend of fat, sweet, salt and acid. An example would be coconut meat (fat), banana (sweet), pinch of himalayan salt (salty) and an orange (acid). When you have all of these in your recipe, you’re smoothie is more likely than not, going to be awesome!
