Even with stormy clouds the High Country of the South Island is stunning (and empty!). The gigantic rocks are at Kura Tawhiti (Castle Hill).Before crossing Arthur's Pass we stopped for a view, and curious kea parrots run forward to meet us. Pity that it is forbidden to feed them, they are so funny and friendly! They will also smash your car and steal from your bag if you are not careful! But
