This blueberry banana smoothie is not only delicious and creamy, but also contains lean protein that helps you recover and build muscle after a workout. {Gluten-Free, Vegetarian Adaptable}

This blueberry banana smoothie was one of the earliest recipes on my blog, going way back to 2013! Back then I had just started to work out regularly. A friend of mine taught me to make this post-workout smoothie and I fell in love with the drink immediately.

It’s so simple and delicious, and only contains only 193 calories per serving. I love the fact that it contains a lot of healthy carbs, which digest quickly and provide energy immediately. It also contains a good amount of protein, which helps me recover and build muscle after a workout. I do not use any sweetener in this drink, because the banana adds just enough sweetness to it.

There are also many ways to tweak this recipe. For example, add 1/2 to 1 more banana if you want a creamier consistency and sweeter drink. Add a handful of spinach for more nutrition. Or some flaxseed for fiber.

When I have extra over-ripe bananas that I cannot finish, I use them to make low-sugar banana bread and the three-ingredient avocado smoothie. If I don’t have time to cook, I’ll just peel and freeze the bananas in Ziplock bags, so I can make a cold smoothie later.

If you want a regular smoothie without the egg, simply skip the egg and you’ll still have a delicious drink.
