Oyster Steak Sauce

Oyster Steak Sauce

When I was growing up, the Honpa Hongwanji Buddhist Temple would compile local island recipes and make cookbooks to sell – Favorite Island Recipes. These cookbooks became a “go to” book for many island cooks and no one  in my family is willing to part with theirs so I had to find my own. Lucky for me, I found  the first three editions on Amazon in excellent condition – Yay me! One of the first recipes I tried was called barbecued steak, but the ingredients didn’t really fit with what I think of as barbeque. So, I’m calling it “Oyster Steak Sauce”.

Ingredients

  • 2 - 3lb Steak (I use Tri-tip)
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 3-4 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons oyster sauace
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic (use more if you like garlic)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 3 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon cornstarch (optional)
