I absolutely love granola, yet I have never thought of making them. Why? Well I think it was mainly due to laziness! Haha. I decided to make chocolate granola because Du Chocolat sent me their cocoa powder to try out and it came the same day I made the granola, so I was like "OMG YES CHOCOLATE GRANOLAAAA!". Before I get to the granola recipe, here's a review on their cocoa powder! Go ahead and scroll all the way down for the recipe if you'd like :).
Du Chocolat Cocoa Powder Review!
Du Chocolat is yeast free, gluten free, nut free & sugar free. It is priced at $6.50 and $9.50 depending on what size you want. Their website states the ingredients as follows:
Natvia Natural Sweetener
Du Chocolat is based in Melbourne, Australia and that explains the arrival of their product to my house because, at first, I thought it was stolen. If you are in the USA, expect a couple of weeks for the product to come to your doorstep.
First impressions (aka what literally pops in my head upon viewing the product): Beautiful & seamless black packaging, eye catching, pretty, unique. I say all this because you don't see black packaging often!
Review: I first tried the cocoa powder in milk with 2 teaspoons. It was too sweet for me until I realized I needed to add more milk(soy milk)! I found the mixture as rich with just the right amount of sweetness. With cocoa powders, you don't want to add sugar, even though it is usually called for to get a preferred sweetness. The sweetness in their powder makes it really convenient to have in the pantry without sacrificing taste. I thought 'yum' and 'yay' instantly! Then I tried it hot, and whoa. Oh whoa whoa. Superfooders may think that cocao would give you the best benefits, but this is not bad AT ALL, tastebuds-wise. For convenience without added sugar, this a nice add to the pantry. If you ever want to try this product, try it with hot milk or hot water first. It will knock your socks off!
Main Point: I totally recommend this product.
And lastly, thank you Du Chocolat for sending me your product!
On to the delicious healthy chocolate granola!
I decided to call this "Cocoa Puff" granola because every bite made me think, "omgoodness, THIS TASTES LIKE GRANOLA!". I believe, (though i'm not sure until I make a second batch), that this would not taste like cocoa puffs if it weren't for Du Chocolat's cocoa powder. Of course, most of you won't have this product, but I can try to sub and update the recipe when I make the second and third batch.
This recipe is vegan friendly and can be made gluten free.
