In our neighborhood, there are MANY Mexican restaurants. We have two on our small street alone, there’s another a few blocks down, and then of course there are the major chains. But when we want authentic (in my opinion) tacos, we head to a small walk up stand around the corner. Not the usual place I’d think to get a great meal, but the street tacos are the best I have ever had.
Street tacos are not covered in sauce, salsa, or sour cream; there isn’t even any cheese. A little onion and fresh cilantro are all they need.
- 2 lb skirt steak
- 1 cup of orange juice
- juice from 1 lime
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 white onion, diced (save a few tablespoons for topping)
- 1/4 cup cilantro, roughly chopped
- salt and pepper
- corn tortillas
- cilantro for topping
