Last week it was too cold here in Toronto. It’s my second winter here and it’s colder and snowier than the last one. It was bad for 3 days I think. -15 Celsius 5 Fahrenheit.. So you know, it’s nice to stay inside and enjoy the warmth, watching the snow through the window, baking… Well I wanted to bake but when it’s so cold outside who’s gonna remember to bring some eggs? So I di
This dish is inspired by classic Greek recipes. Juicy, melt in your mouth, pork braised with leeks and mushrooms in a spiced tomato sauce. You should add the peppers just a few moments before serving, so that they keep their crunchiness. This way they’re adding a different texture to the dish. You can accompany with rice, mushed potatoes, fries or just a nice crusty bread.

baked not fried) :) I just love mushrooms. Any kind. I wish I was a mushroom finder and just go for a walk on the woods with my little basket on hand and collect the good stuff. But I’m not. Saganaki means anything that is made using a skillet. We have any kind of saganaki back in Greece, we have cheese saganaki, shrimp saganaki, pork saganaki , fish saganaki etc. I used to find the wide variety in every restaurant in Greece and most of the time I didn’t know what to choose. Last week my friend Heather reminded me of a traditional shrimp saganaki and so today I h
I love red lentils ( I have no idea why they call them red, they’re clearly orange), they have a delicate subtle flavor and the fact that they are hulled makes them cook really fast. Too bad they don’t keep this amazing orange color after cooking. I started doing this recipe last winter, it’s an idea from Foodnetwork Magazine. I tried making this recipe both with brown lentil
This is a very popular traditional recipe that is so easy to make and yet so delicious. A friend of mine Lina, sent me the recipe and although it was not the first time I was making this dessert, I just loved Lina’s version. Hello there friends! You can’t go more traditional than this.. I’m not the typical traditional type of a Greek woman at all, let me tell you.. When I was living in Greece, I never danced a traditional dance (although I know how to dance, seriously I have no idea how that happened) and I don’t listen to Greek music. I love changing the traditional recipes that I grew up with

Waffles are a standard breakfast and - or evening treat that Greeks use to eat on their vacations in the islands. I have no idea why this is happening, of course waffles are delicious but having waffles on vacations has become almost a tradition for most of the Greeks and waffles are not a greek delicacy. Anyway, we love them, I don't know anyone who doesn't, so I made an easy

Late August and now it's the time for figs. I have memories collecting them from the trees every year.. late summer. Imagine 2 big bags full of figs every late summ

We call this recipe "Papoutsakia" which literally means little shoes. It's one of the most popular summer dishes of Greece and incredible delicious. In the past, cooks used to fry the eggplants and then stuff them with the ground meat. This is a lighter version, I'm just baking the eggplants for a while and then stuff and bake them. You 'll have to excuse my Greek Blogs Logo (C

So today I have this easy recipe for homemade gnocchi served with a fresh sauce that I saw on Rachel Rays Magazine. The dis
First of all I want to apologize for the picture, it was taken by my mobile phone :) This is a dish inspired from a traditional one, in which usually the zucchinis are stuffed with rice, ground beef and they are served with the classic Greek Egg and Lemon sauce (I will also post that recipe soon). In this lighter and vegan version, I use mushrooms instead of meat and
You cant imagine how hot it is here in Toronto these last few days! Seriously I left Greece hoping that I will escape from that heat, came to Canada and it’s even worst! So, Ice cream time, yes, but let’s do a twist and make it decadent enough.. You can use a simple vanilla ice cream or any flavor that you think it will suit your taste buds. Just consider that the ice crea
Hello! Summer is here and nothing reminds me of the Mediterranean more, than a seafood platter.. Paella is a dish originated in Valencia, Spain. Spanish Farmers and fishermen used to make this dish with any ingredient that they had handy. You’ll see a paella using snails, any kind of legumes, chicken, fresh beans and seafood. I’m giving you a plain seafood version of the dish.
