Last weekend I attempted waffles (again). I've been looking for a waffle recipe to use on a regular basis for years now and none of them have been working out. Some were too sweet, some were too greasy, some were just too tedious for me to bother with that early in the morning. I think I've finally struck waffle gold! Give them a try this weekend and let me know what you think...
Have you been keeping up with my weekly posts on The Air Miles Blog? If not, you are missing some crafty and tasty tidbits as I strive to earn Air Miles to achieve my reward goals. Tidbits like... Just sayin' ;)

My husband and I share the car, and on Thursdays Chelsea and I keep it so that we can run amuck after preschool gets out. Most Thursdays that means a trip to McDonalds for lunch so that Chelsea can bur

It's not the first time I have blogged about Donairs. If you are from Halifax, and you like beer, you probably love 'em. I feel like this post should be an informercial. You know how they go... during the set up, they show the clumsiest, most uncoordinated goof trying to do a simple task without success. In this case, there would be a girl in her 'Downtown Finest' sitting at a booth at KOD
When I started my blog over two years ago, I had no idea what 'blogging' actually was. The fact that I would be able to turn my hobby into something more, a career maybe, was not even at the back of my mind. When I named Mmm... is for Mommy, I had no idea that a 'Mommy Blog' was even a thing. I learned pretty quickly that Mommy Blogs were ones that were either loved or dismissed in the cyber
Or, why I love my Sis-n-law :) What are your favourite items that you just can't get at home?
In the early days I was blessed by the Laundry Gods. As an infant, Chelsea rarely, if ever, spit up and as a picky toddler, her meals consisted of a lot of rice, plain pasta and cereal. The people who lucked into her hand-me-downs were a fortunate lot indeed. Fast forward to Spring 2013. Oh my word, the laundry... Chelsea loves to play outside and I wholeheartedly support this, falls, bu
Ever since our first inaugural Mom's Craft Night, I've been obsessed with crafting things. Whether the awesomely awesome paint job I did on Chelsea's swing set/playhouse (pics to come), to the multitude of buttons that have been glued to things... a creative spark inferno has been lit. I had been toying with making a yarn-wrapped wreath for a week or so and over the weekend I go
In March, Hubs and I took our first official trip South together. It was truly a last minute decision (I got the idea Thursday and we headed off to the airport very very early Sunday morning), and I will never regret it. We are lucky in that Hubs can get time off with short notice and that loving family members offering childcare abound... don't think for a minute that I don't realize how lucky
Mother's Day is tomorrow (yay for Moms!) and Netflix has come up with a great list of Mom & family themed titles, any of which would be great to watch tomorrow whilst quietly curled up on the couch (or snug in bed) and NOT doing housework. · Stepmom · Erin Brockovich · Monster-In-Law · Georgie Rule · Baby Mama · Mo
This cake has been a long time coming and I've been dreaming about tasting it for weeks now. Today my dreams became a sweet reality. I love lemon and blueberry together and I also got to finally try out this rose frosting technique, which as it turns out is crazy easy... even when you are in a hurry and your frosting is a bit soft. I consider this cake my Mother's Day gift to myself... but I'm
You know I love contests and I'm pretty bummed that I can't enter this one since it's only open to you lucky ducks in Ontario. It involves three of my favourite things (I have more favourite things than Oprah)... Air Miles, popchips and vacation! Of course, if you win, you could always take me with you... ahem, cough, wink, beg. popchips and the Esperanza Resort have teamed up to bring Metro
The past couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of scraping, painting, weeding, planting, sliding and swinging. Spring is definitely in full bloom in Nova Scotia and today it feels like Summer won't be that far behind. Meals have consisted of a lot of grilled burgers and chicken and baking has been non-existent. I have an idea for an awesome cake that I am hoping to get started today, but it's
If I had to pick one thing that I am most grateful for, it is that I am fortunate enough to have a healthy child who is able to run, dance and play. It breaks my heart to hear of a child suffering from a serious illness or injury, especially if they need to be separated from their families while hospitalized. Ronald McDonald Houses provide accommodation and support to 10,000 families in Canada
I'm still in awe at the opportunities that have come my way since starting my little recipe blog just over two years ago. I'm sure that every English teacher I had in high school is shaking their head in utter disbelief. Heather, the short-answer queen, the most staunch opponent to the essay question ever to grace the halls of Kings County Academy now spends her days writing... because she loves
She's a much better patient than her Mommy. No cavities either :)
If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you may have seen this photo last night. My new baby's first photograph. She was planned (for years), but her sudden arrival on the scene still has me a bit frazzled. Mama's New Baby via Instagram I have wanted a MacBook Pro for well, as long as they have existed. I used Macs years ago and though it's going to take me a few weeks to ad
I tried Twistos Snack Bites for the first time I saw them at the supermarket last year. They were really tasty, like a mini crostini... but not rock hard as some other store-bought ones I have tried. Chelsea even loved them, which as you know, speaks volumes. Well, Twistos Snack bites have expanded their flavour selection, adding Balsamic Vinegar & Olive Oil to their existing line-up an
I'm admitting defeat. Delicious chewy, chocolatey defeat. For years I've es'chew'ed the chewy chocolate chip cookie, wanting only to find a recipe for it's perfect crunchy counterpart. Since learning that Chips Ahoy are not able to be duplicated in the kitchen, I set out to find a go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe once and for all. I found this recipe on Martha Stewart's web
It may be bribery, and it's far from pretty... but it was cheap, quick and most importantly - it's working!
Last night the 2013 Stars on Ice tour launched in Halifax and Jergens, one of the sponsors, was kind enough to send me and two of my 'Cool Mom' friends for a much needed night out. The show was incredible and we all had such a good time. While the three of us knew the names of many of the performers, none of us were what you would call big figure skating fans prior... I watch it durin
Fisher-Price is synonymous with quality toys that are passed down through families and even generations. The majority of photos of me playing as a child include a Fisher-Price toy, and looking through Chelsea's photos, so do many of hers. The Brilliant Basics Rock a Stack truly is a classic, a favourite that both Chelsea and I played with while we were toddlers. Watching her f
One of my favourite summertime memories is when 'that' day arrived. The day when my Dad finally had enough of the heat so after dinner he would gather Mom and I to head off into town so that he could get a milkshake at Dairy Queen (we were more generous with the number of letters used when I was a youngster, ahem. DQ came a bit later). I thought this was the best day ever. Not just because we
I've been in a retro-recipe phase lately. Tomato soup cake just screams 1950s, which is when the recipe was originally put out by Campbells and then subsequently handwritten on index cards by housewives throughout North America. Everyone loves to play the 'guess the hidden ingredient' game when this cake is served, since it tastes simply like spice cake. I haven't baked this
When you think of your favourite foods, where does your culinary compass point? Whether it's North, South, East or West, Sobeys has you covered this season and is celebrating the various tastes of the world this spring with a Pinathon! To enter, all you need to do is choose one of the following countries as your dream taste destination, then create a pin board on Pinterest, pinning
This is a food holiday that I can get behind. Who doesn't love a grilled cheese sandwich? Okay, I personally know someone who probably doesn't like them... but other than her everyone does. Everyone I tell you. I grilled this beauty last night in my new Cuisinart Griddler, man, I love that thing! Ciabatta, a bit of BBQ pulled pork, thinly sliced red onion, sliced old Canadian
There has been a Brita® pitcher in my fridge for as long as I can remember. Mom informed me that it was actually 1991 when she got hers (how she remembers that I don't dare question...), so my memory isn't actually that good, I would have been in grade 11. Mom and Dad still have their original pitcher in the fridge, we had a slighter newer model in ours, and now we have this colourful one.
In the days leading up to Mmm... is for Mommy's 2nd blog birthday, I was searching long and hard online for some inspiration for the perfect birthday cake. In a month full of other celebrations - St. Patrick's Day, Easter & our wedding anniversary, I was almost baked-out and couldn't even find inspiration browsing the mouth-watering cakes on Life Made Delicious. While bummed that I couldn't
So Spring arrived yesterday, as did a heap of snow. Ugh. As much as I love snow before Christmas, it's sight repulses me this time of year. Needless to say it's appearance did not inspire me to make salad for dinner... back to soups we go. This is a really easy recipe and you only need about 2 hours start to finish to make it. If you happen to have homemade beef stock on han
Cute AND 1/2 Irish, truth be told.
Ask me about what I remember most about the first month at home with a newborn and I will tell you without any hesitation that I was OVERwhelmed, not to mention way OVERtired, but I think the two go hand in hand. First Bath @ Home ... I did it just like the books said, well one of them anyway I'm sure. As new mothers nowadays there seems to be a self-expectation that we have to be p
Having just returned from our family vacation, I know just how important it is to keep the young ones entertained during the not-so-exciting parts of holidays (airport delays anyone? The horror). We love Netflix and while we usually use it at home on our main TV with a media streamer, it was so convenient to have the same shows, movies and familiar interface on our iDevices as well. Many
Kellogg has just released the newest variety to it's All-Bran line, Kellogg’s All-Bran Cranberries & Clusters. We enjoy some of the All-Bran cereals on a regular basis, but rarely do flakes make it to our shopping cart. When I read that the newest variety (the first since 2008) takes flakes to the next level with crunchy multi-grain clusters, dried cranberries and a slightly sweet vanilla
We're baaaack! After a bit of winter hibernation, we Sobeys Better Food Lovers are back and we are ready to party... Twitter party that is. We are getting ready for Spring (yay for Daylight Savings Time returning this coming weekend!) by shedding the stews and soups and talking about getting fresh with a new season of fruits, veggies, dips and snacks for the entire family. Having
Recently I was offered a free product coupon to purchase some of the new BlueWater Seafood's new Grill Fish options, all of which are now gluten-free. None of us (thankfully) need to follow a gluten-free diet, so my review of them will simply be on the ease of preparation and of course, most importantly, the taste. Being miles from the Atlantic coastline means that I normally choose
A couple of weekends ago, winter storm "Nemo" wandered up the east coast and left Halifax with a big ol' pile of snow. It also left me to my own devices in the kitchen, as there was no way I was going out to pick up groceries in that mess (even if I could find a store that was open). I had some boneless pork chops in the freezer, so I started looking through Cooking Light to see if I had the
Just in time for Valentines Day, Build-A-Bear Workshop has come out with one of it's cutest offerings yet, Hugs-A-Plenty Puppy. Covered in pink and red hearts and with the cutest red heart-shaped nose, this puppy is sooooo soft (I've been caught snuggling with him on the sofa after Chelsea goes to bed). I've always been impressed with the quality of Build-A-Bear Workshop toys,
Valentines Day is coming up, and in our house, nothing says 'love' like Chocolate. I received some early V-Day love from my friends at Green & Black's Organic in the form of a stack of chocolate to experiment in the kitchen with. Between you and me, a lot of the experimenting took the form of me ripping off the wrapper and sitting down with a cup of coffee... but on
It seems like just yesterday... Before this blog, before it taking half an hour to wrangle Chelsea into her pajamas after the umpteenth bedtime story... a lot of my time was spent on diaper changes. Somehow, some way, I lucked out and Chelsea never suffered from bad bouts of diaper rash... so I used whatever it was that came in the little goody bag I came home from the IWK with
If you like Pina Coladas, getting caught in the rain... There, now that the obligatory singing is out of the way, this is a Caker recipe if I've ever seen one. I stumbled across the Caker Cooking blog months ago and it's like a warm hug from a squishy grandma. Although this recipe is not from that blog, it would fit right in. From the Caker Cooking FAQs... What’s a “caker?”
Yes, you heard me right, Peanut Butter Cheerios are coming to Canada starting March 4th but for a limited time only. Peanut Butter Cheerios have already taken over the Life Made Delicious Facebook page, and that is where you will find a link to an exclusive coupon that will let you buy a box of your favourite flavoured Cheerios and get a box of the new PB Cheerios free on the weekend of March
So, as you can see, I have been in a bit of a cooking & baking slump as of late. Call it the winter blahs, call it a leftovers phase, call it being just plain sick of having a messy kitchen... whatever. Then I saw a recipe, a recipe that was going to rock my world. I cleared the countertops, dug out the dSLR, got everything all bloggy-like, and then an hour later a great big MEH! I ha
This month (wow, I did two #BHBC s this month!) the BlogHer Book Club is reading Here I Go Again, a novel by New York Times bestselling author Jen Lancaster. I was really excited when I was selected to be in this month's book club for one reason - the title of the book is named after a Whitesnake song! Like the novel's main character, Lissy Ryder, I too graduated from high school in
While Moms like me normally use their stand mixers for making yummy creations such as buttercream frosting and cupcakes to hold said frosting, pharmacist George Doherty got busy in the kitchen with his wife's mixer and came up with George's Special Dry Skin Cream. George was looking to create the best cream for his customers to help soothe their severely dry skin brought upon by the
I'm feeling my age (maybe even older). That simply won't do. So while I'm waiting impatiently for 10 rejuvenating nights at Walt Disney World, I'm going to spend my free seconds doing things that make me feel young again. Along with all the DIY beautifications to come, I've also broken my three year tanning bed sobriety (don't be hatin'... I know it's bad), and I've been baking muffins.
I'm back in the kitchen and definitely inspired... so much so that I have lots to share with my friends at Mushrooms.ca. Today on their blog, you'll find a new post and an incredible recipe by yours truly - Truffled Roasted Cremini Pizza! Check it out here...
