I have been MIA as of lately, I miss blogging. I have a new love...all my time and energy is spent with that. I thought I would share some photos of the progress of Wild Leek Food & Juice Bar. So far everything has been pretty smooth. I am SO excited to get into the kitchen and start cooking! The restaurant is looking great, and I have learned so much, floor sanders are cool ( quite a
So the news that I have been hinting at the last couple of months? Guess where I am? In my own restaurant kitchen!! I have been working on this for the last nine months..getting everything together. I am opening a small neighborhood restaurant in Halifax. It is going to be wonderful..tasty, fresh and fully VEGAN! I can hardly wait to get back into the swing of
It official the first day of spring has arrived, with a snow storm! Boo. That didn't stop me from baking up this delicioso 'vegan asparagus quiche'. Even with the snow, I can feel spring is going to pounce upon us with sunshine, buds on the trees, birds singing but until it comes I will be opening my front door to rubber boots filled with snow!
Hey everyone, I have great dish from the secret recipe club again! A veganized Cobb salad, this was super easy to prepare and very tasty. It comes from fellow blogger, the daily dish recipes. Nicole makes some yummy looking recipes. There are a few stories of how the Cobb salad was invented, I like the one were the Chef hadn't eaten until midnight so he thr
It's Valentines day tomorrow and I thought it would be nice to make a vegan inspired dessert. I decided to go with chocolate (of course) and put a twist on it...ginger! The both pair very nicely together, so....'vegan ginger chocolate mousse' it was! I love candied ginger but I have never made it before, I found this recipe and I really like how simple it is.
As I sit here and write this post I am eating yummy 'vegan sfeeha' other wise known as 'meat' pies. I put my own twist on this traditional recipe by veganizing it!! This little delicacy comes from Lebanon. I recently joined 'the secret recipe club', where you get sent a blog that you may have never discovered otherwise, and have to pick recipe from the
I feel like I have not been in my kitchen in for-EVER! I mean I make toast and things like that, but I have not been cooking like I usually do. My upcoming plan is in full swing, with hopes that everything goes as it should...I will release the news soon! Tonight was a good night to be inside cooking its pretty chilly outside and I really do find my qi when I am in the kitchen. This was a

I have not been around here lately, things in my life have been a little crazy. My oldest daughter Ocean, is in the hospital. Since she is hopefully on the mend, I thought I would take her some home-made soup. I made this "root vegetable soup" to compensate for the yucky hospital food. Picked up a bag of stewing vegetables at the grocery store yesterday. It's just handy and pret
With every new year... love adventure and happiness! xo
Hope everyone is having some holiday cheer with friends and family. I will be back in the new year. xo
I made this for Leeluu for Christmas. A little messenger bag, for field study ( other wise known as a bug bag). I used a pair of old man pants that I bought at the thrift store, and I picked up a cute little print that has sticks and squirrels on it at the fabric store. As you can see I haven't sew'n the buttons on yet...I don't have a needle kicking around. I am

Only two weeks to go before Christmas. I thought it would be a good idea to do some baking, since that is what I love so much about the holidays! I also really love vegan shortbread cookies, these are easy to make with only 4 ingredients! You can add things like I did... poppy seed and lemon zest, maybe even some crushed up candy cane would be nice. Vegan Shortbread
Hey all! I hope you have not missed me. The winter has fast approached us and I am not looking forward to the snow...at all. Yeah I know its pretty, but it is also pretty freakin cold and I do not like shovelling (especially at 6am)! I am a Caribbean girl at heart. I have been working on a pretty big venture. I will keep you posted. That is why I have been neg

It is getting chillier these days, the frost is here and the snow will be very soon. With the colder weather comes heartier dishes. Barley is one of those foods that reminds me of that we are soon approaching winter, I usually add it to root vegetable stews and such. I thought I would try something new with it...a salad! Barley cooks up like rice, and has a nutty flavour, it als
You came into my life... and what a beautiful gift you gave to me. You made me a mother. You are such an amazing human. So full of love. Your compassion and kindness radiates though your very soul. Growing up together. has made me appreciate you, in every moment of every day.
Ol' man Simon, planted a diamond. Grew his self a garden the likes of none. Sprouts all growin' comin' up glowin' Fruit of jewels all shinin' in the sun. Colors of the rainbow. See the sun and the rain grow sapphires and rubies on ivory vines, Grapes of jade, just ripenin' in the shade, just ready for the squeezin' into gree
The other day I was at the doctors office, and I was looking through a reader digest, I came across a recipe for black bean soup. It looked simple and tasty so tore it out of the magazine ( yes I am one of those people) and taped it to my fridge. Easy one pot meals really appeal to me these days..maybe it is the lack of wanting to tidy up after or just the ease of it all...anyhow this was

Happy Halloween!!
These eyes, ears, hands and feet... are 34 years old today!
Hey everyone I have not been the best at participating in Vegan MOFO this year. I was SO excited about it too, had all my recipe plans and then I didn't really do much. I guess life got in the way. My mom is in town, and I had other family visiting earlier, along with my two wee ones birthdays. Just settling into how things will be for me for me on my own too. It has been
I have missed my muffin days..it has been too long. I busted out the old muffin tin this morning, and convinced a friend to come over and sample a few with me :) I love summer berries, and usually have a good whack of them in my freezer. I also love jam. Muffins, berries and jam!! O yeah baby. just a spoonful. best store bought jam! she loved them...
Fresh with a hint of sweet and sour, this veganized version of Tom Yum soup is so easy to make! I usually have some Tom Yum stock on hand so this cooks up pretty quick, I also like to add some coconut milk to the pot. It makes for a flavourful base. I marinate some cubed tofu with some sunflower oil, tamari, and hot sauce. Bake it in the oven at 400 for about 10 minute
today you are 1! 7 months ago a few days old I didn't think I could love another, then you came along... and blew me away. Happy birthday Pony!
I have been doing quite a bit of soul searching the last few weeks..finding what and who is important to me. It has not been easy, but it has been worth it. Meditation is helping me clear my mind. I have a bit of aggression in me too, so I am looking into kick boxing. Has anyone ever taken that up? I would love to have some input into weather it is a good outlet. Been keeping the
today you are 4 when you were 3 and then you were 2 1 new You have touched my life in so many ways, I thank the stars and moon. Give me the gift of love, and I will forever be yours. Happy birthday baby!
It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for and if you dare to dream of meeting your heart's longing. It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dream, for the adventure of being alive. It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched
I went to my good friends house the other day ( Anne I love you! )...and she made an amazing raw pumpkin pie. It was so good, I was inspired! This is where most of my cooking comes about...inspiration. I don't have a fancy blender, but if I add just the right amount of liquid I can get a really smooth consistency out of the old Oster. I used a basic raw crust. Which usually consist
Lately, I have not been cooking as much as I should and want to. I suppose it could be that my heart is not in it, but today I am feeling it. I went to the grocery store with no particular menu in mind. Here's what I grabbed: dates squash sweet potato brussel spouts cremini mushrooms apples parsley almonds The rest was pretty much just a process of elimination. I ha

I received a gift from my friends garden the other day. A beautiful kohlrabi! I know that some people are like what the heck is 'kohlrabi'? This vegetable is from the cabbage family and this is time of year that they are harvested in my neck of the woods. It is like a big turnip that tastes like cabbage and broccoli mixed together. Since the weather has been beautifu
What a beautiful morning it is! I woke up fresh and ready to use my new camera. HOLLA' . Yep I got myself a shiny new camera. I take my daughter to the bus every morning, and we always catch the most beautiful sunrises on the way. I always pass by and wish I had brought'n my camera. Well friends..this morning I did :) rise again to the bus! I feel whole again! For so
It is vegan MOFO, and I am participating again this year. I know that some of you have read my last few posts, and I want you to know that I am good. In the right head space. Yes I am sad, but like I said... it is new day, a new dawn! This year my theme is the ' Fall harvest"...everything that I am going to make this month will be local and/or seasonal. Now because I don't hav

Ginger spiced plum muffins 1/2 cup olive oil 3/4 cup organic sugar 1 tsp vanilla 1/4 cup shredded coconut 2 tbsp ground flax seed mixed with 6 tbsp water 1 tsp apple cider vinegar 1/4 cup coconut milk 2 cups flour

I still have another full year of weekends alone, and weekdays....meaning I am the only caretaker. Strength. That is what I see. Lots of time spent hanging around the house, noticing the things that need to be finished.paint, floors, walls, dirt, weeds.Hard to do when you have your hands full. So we go to the beach. I suppose I should be doing
It is hard to wrap my brain around that September is already here. Kids are back in school in a few days, Ocean is starting high school! CRAZY. She will be learning to drive in a few months!! She has been bugging about a VW van...she wants one. Fitting I suppose for a vegan girl named Ocean. Yesterday Leeluu wanted to make cookies and pulled up a chair to the counter, hoisted all th
Leeluu picked out this sword while we were on our European adventure, it has become one of the favourite play/bug/poke/ people with toys. I think it is kinda funny, because she has such a strong personality. Lately she has been playing with it quite a bit. It came down to the beach with us yesterday and Simone was the caretaker of the sword. As I was scr
I think I have the worst luck with cameras...broken, again. I have been using my kids iPod, its fun. I enjoy the smallness of it. Anyhow, I made this tonight for dinner. It was really good. I usually don't get eggplant all that much. It's a weird vegetable, but a friend brought one over the other day. She thought it would be fun to see what I would cook for lunch with it.

It is that time of year again...Summer squash! I picked up a zucchini from the vegetable stand the other day. This thing was as big as a new born baby. I joked about dressing it up like one to my daughter Ocean. She was disappointed that I didn't. At first I was thinking about muffins or a loaf, because that is what I usually make with it. I googled some &nbs
I finally choose a colour for our exterior doors! 'Olive moss' What'cha think?
