So I totally planned on writing a different post until I woke up this morning. The morning I chose to sleep in asking where my Ben and Jerry’s post was. All the other times we posted at 8pm EST so when I jumped in last minute because a reader asked if I would do anything with Coffee Heath Bar Crunch I didn't pay attention to the time switch to 8am est (5 am my time). And since I was
First off if you are not loving this Ben and Jerry’s week I’m not sure we can be friends. :) Second if you haven’t seen what the others are doing you are missing out big time. I’m so making Shelly’s What a Cluster Bars for the hockey team and Kristan’s Cherry Garcia Cake is a thing of beauty (I almost wouldn’t want to cut into it…almost). Keep reading for Everything But The....Cake recipe...
So back in early April Kristan, Shelly, and Bridget declared it candy bar week and created treats in honor of their favorite candy bars. I thought that sounded so fun. I mean we all know I have a candy addiction/un-natural obsession. This time around however Shelly and Kristan went with a Ben and Jerry’s Theme Week, which is equally as fun so much so that I had to get in on the action! Be sur
When I was younger and thinner I went into Abercrombie and tried on a pair of shorts in an 8. They were cute with bows (I’m a sucker for a bow) but they left little to the imagination for what kind of underwear I might be wearing. Not being comfortable having shorts at my underwear line I thought maybe if I size up they will sit lower on the hip. I asked the sales girl if they had that in a siz
I’m not in school. I haven’t been for a while now. For a while I was a school junkie. I went all the time. I went straight until I turned and moved to WA State and the UW didn’t have the program I was in the middle of. And so I stopped. It’s funny because it didn’t seem like it at the time as it was just what I did, be the perpetual student, collecting degrees (that clearly I do so much with)b
So it’s Cinco de Mayo on Sunday. For the record Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day (that’s in September), in fact I would guess most people have no idea why we even celebrate it. To me we celebrate it so that Mexican food restaurants and the tequila industry get a boost and people find yet another excuse to get trashed. Keep reading for Peabody's Skinny Chick Margarita....
*Last day of April. I seriously cannot get over how fast the month goes by…unless I am on a treadmill then it seems to last forever. Maybe they say the key to living a long life is the treadmill because it just feels like you are there forever. :) Keep reading for Pineapple Upside Down Bread Pudding....
Quite a few months ago my doctor asked me why I exercised and I told him so I could eat what I wanted and/or lose weight. He told me he wanted me to stop exercising for weight loss. To stop going hard core 5 times a week like I did. For I was having a tendency to over train and injure myself. He said to slow it down to 30-60 minutes EVERY day of moderate exercise (hockey not included). I gave
First off congrats to Heather (of Kitchen Concoctions) who is the winner of the tart pans. She has already been contacted and the pans are on their way Heather. Sorry I was behind on that as what I thought was allergies was really a cold. I’ll be announcing the winner for the Harry and David giveaway this weekend. Years ago there was a woman on Oprah. I don’t remember who and I don’t remember what she was even on there for but she was trying to convince women that they should wear sexy underwear every day. That they should not be just for date nights and that they would help you feel pretty every day. I have no idea why but at that moment in time that spoke to me and the next thing you know I had tossed o
I’d love to be coming on here and telling you I have an amazing recipe for you…but that is not the case. Though this week there will be I promise! My life the last two weeks has been extra hectic. I had a bunch of assignment due for my Tablespoon gig as well a miscommunication on my part somehow had me and MDP score keeping more than our usual games. The good news is that things are slowing dow
Mother’s Day will soon be upon us. The day that we celebrate the woman that gave birth to us. I of course celebrate that every day. :) But in all seriousness I do try and let my mom know how wonderful she is. It’s pretty hard to find someone that doesn’t like my mom and if they don’t like her it’s probably because they are a rotten person (for reals) and she probably chose not to deal with the
1. Stayed up until 1 something in the morning Saturday night doing my taxes. I think I invented new swear words. The IRS says food bloggers are a business yet sadly I don’t get any of the benefits of having a home office as it gets used for other things like paying my bills on line. So I get to owe them money. Sigh. Keep reading for Smoked Gouda, Gruyere and Ham Pizza with Walla Walla Onion P
Ever have so much to do that you choose to accomplish nothing? This seems to be me as of late. Only problem is it doesn’t really work. :) Procrastination is only your friend during the procrastination part…it’s the part that comes after that’s not so great. I’m procrastinating now by putting this post up. :P Keep reading for Giant Peanut Butter Cups...
1. Next week I have jury duty (sense my excitement). For five days or for the length of a trial. I never get picked for trial. I never get picked. Ever (I’ve been summons 17 times). Never picked. Not once. My parents were both police officers. Someone in my immediate family was the victim of a violent crime. I was a rape victim counselor in college and according to my dad’s friend that worked i
Just a warning I’ve been told that my site is going to be down in the next couple of days ( just for a few hours)…not for too long just don’t know when exactly. It’s mess with my site roulette. But know while its down I am working on recreating this amazing caramel pecan roll [...]
I’m sure it comes as no shock to people that after running a blog for almost 8 years you often run out of ideas. So I am so thankful for other bloggers and for the invention of Pinterest. Now I usually try and put my own spin on it…and that’s how these bars came about. Keep reading for Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Overload Bars....
Ever notice no one ever says World’s Mos tMediocre Banana Bread? They should though. I have tried my fair share of World’s Best Banana Bread only to be sadly disappointed. Perhaps it’s like in Elf when he believes the sign World’s Best Cup of Coffee. Deep down I know it’s probably not going to be the best banana bread and yet I try any way. Keep reading for Malted Banana Chocolate Chip Muffin
I am a huge Big Bang Theory fan. Partially because I went to school with those characters. When you are in the mathematical sciences you are pretty much the only girl in most of your classes. If you know the show at all I used to have a Howard that sat behind me in Applied Material Science Engineering class and smell my hair every day. And yes, it’s as creepy as it sounds. Keep reading for Cu
Summer is coming and try as I might I simply won’t be able to keep up with all the ThinSpo. I have been on a pinning crusade to Pin Positive Body Image posts for every ThinSpo pin I see…and well I am seeing a lot of them. Everybody wants a thigh gap…guess what? That has to do with your hip bone placement more than starving yourself. Everybody wants to be bikini ready. Technically I’m bikini rea
Happy Easter to those who celebrate it! And if you don’t celebrate it Happy Sunday. Reminder that Easter candy goes on sale tomorrow! Also a reminder that it is April Fool’s Day so watch out for those pranksters. Keep reading for Monte Cristo Sandwich....
Cadbury Creme Egg Pie You probably have Easter dessert all figured out but here is a recipe round up for you to use up some of that extra Easter candy that goes on sale Monday! BTW- This pie we LOVE and make every year! Keep reading for the Easter Candy Recipe Round Up....
I’m a lazy blogger. I like to see if the recipe is already out there that I can make and modify. Coming up with a recipe from scratch takes time darn it all. Which is why I have to laugh when the people on all these Facebook Pages that steal photos and post the recipes and say they are just recipes. Truthfully I don’t get that upset over the recipe as I do the photo. When I asked the one girl w
I’m really starting to embrace the idea of cocktails on my blog…it certainly has made afternoon laundry time far more fun! Oh who am I kidding…I’m not doing laundry but I was thinking about doing it (and it’s the thought that counts…right up to the point where you don’t have clean underwear). :P Keep reading for Spiked Key Lime-Limeade....
I’m not sure if my mom is weird (well actually I know she is) but growing up every holiday came with the full meal but she always made appetizers as well. I am learning that most people don’t do this. I think it started because us kids would get hungry smelling the food cooking and then annoy the crap out of my mom asking when we would be eating…enter appetizers. Keep reading for Hot Shrimp S
Sunday is Easter. Wow. Not prepared for that AT all. Are you? Some people asked how do people steal content. Here is a great article by I Am Baker that talks more about the Facebook pages I was talking about. Keep reading for Huckleberry BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich
There is an increase in Facebook Pages and Blogs where people create a recipe page and then steal (sometimes on purpose, sometimes not knowing any better) photos and write the recipe out and then give no credit usually pretending the recipe is their own. They get traffic from it and often make money from it as well. While some still have blogging as a hobby the majority of us rely on it as
15. It’s seems like a lifetime ago and yet just like yesterday all the same. It was a big year for me. My birthday was in the summer so I was 15 as a sophomore (most of my friends were older and getting to drive…not that I am bitter or anything). Fifteen was the year of my first real boyfriend. He was a senior. He looked like Goose from Top Gun. I’m still surprised that my parents let me date
Not around much in the food blogging world this week….crazy busy week but crazy good. Don’t worry next week I have nothing and can sit around and talk food…and make food. Keep reading for Mini Manchego Cheesecakes with Apple Onion Jam....
So I’ve been feeling bad lately about my lack of cooking. When MDP and I first started dating I used to cook all the time. Then he made the mistake of showing me he can cook too. :) First it started with breakfast on Sundays…now he is pretty much in charge of weekend breakfast. And more and more he has taken over dinner duty as well. Not because I don’t want to but because my hand acts up and c
So one of the highlights of our Philly trip was me experiencing the Peach-Butter Pecan Pie Milkshake that Franklin’s Fountain made. I knew I had to try and recreate it. And yes they really do serve it with a whole piece of pie on top…not to mention the pie in the actually milkshake as well. Pure genius. Evil genius, but genius nonetheless! Happy Friday all...just a quick post (with recipe!) to tell you that the random chosen winner of the Harry and David Gift Basket was... Keep reading for the winner and Kitchen Sink Thai Penne Pasta recipe...
First a disclaimer: You are going to hate me and love me at the same time for giving you this recipe. That is all. Moving on. As previously discussed there has been quite a few new readers to my site and with that comes a ton of questions so I’m going to do a quick little about me/this blog to catch people up to speed and if you are a long time reader consider it your refresher course and yo
Here's the Tuesday Ten: 1. For the last month I have made my bed every day. I know people do this every day. I do not. I usually just throw the covers kind of over the pillows. But I have been doing the full bed…with pillow shams and all. Sadly this makes me feel more like a grown up. It’s not hard to do and yet I never used to do it. :) Small steps. Crazy thing happened on Friday. I got up early to go to an appointment and did my usual checking of the email, FB, Twitter, etc. and then headed out. Upon returning I did the same. But when I glanced at my FB I noticed over where it had my page it said 20+. I thought what the??? I figured I was being spammed to death and so I went and looked over. Low and behold I had gained 400 plus followers
So Hippity-Hoppity Easter is on its way…end of this month in fact! I love Easter for the décor and of course the candy. Cute bunny and chicks everywhere. And it’s the holiday that fuels my addiction to jelly beans so there is that. So when Harry and David asked if I wanted to give away an Easter gift basket I jumped at the chance. I loved Easter baskets as a kid (okay who am I kidding…as an a
First off, if you didn’t read my last post (I know the cookies were not that exciting looking) please go and at least read the last paragraph. It’s important to me. Thank you. There have been a slew of troll action on the food blogs as of late. I personally just delete it or make fun of them on here but one of them went after a kid blogger which is messed up. If they get out of control I bl
Well since we all love the random posts here we go. *Being a former math teacher I am going to give a little math lesson on here today (don’t panic…it’s not real math). Today’s Math Lesson: Common Denominator. If you get along with almost no one and the people that you have problems with only have problems with you and no one else. Guess what? The common denominator is YOU. Not the other peop
Seriously these make no sense and are in no order except for the first one the first one rules our life currently. This week is brought to you by the phrase: You can’t bleed a turnip. Keep reading for Bacon Breakfast Rolls with Maple Glaze...
So Crazy Cocker Spaniel has separation anxiety and abandonment issues. I wish I was never told that at the shelter where I volunteered at and got her from because I found out years later that I made it worse. Cesar Millan is the dog whisperer…sounds silly but the guy really is good. I was watching his show one day and it was on separation anxiety and it hit me. The issue wasn’t with the dog…it
First off it’s National Margarita Day! Second off to the 41 people who sent me hate mail yesterday you need this drink more than me. Keep reading for Key Lime Raspberry Margarita....
Content and/or other value provided by our partner, Bravo. Well last night’s episode of Top Chef was a good indicator of stick with what you know. Sheldon was sent home for venturing away from the flavor profile that got him to the finale in the first place. I kind of wanted to slap him. So that left my girl Kristen and Brooke to battle it out. This cake was so good that there are only pictures of it sliced since we couldn't wait to eat it. Keep reading for Orange Chocolate Chip Yogurt Cake...
I have had the WORST case of insomnia as of late. As in not being able to fall asleep until 5-6am and then only getting a few hours of sleep, then spend the day being totally useless (more so than usual :P )yet the very next night the same thing…no sleep. The silver lining in all of that if you will is that I’ve gotten to catch up on a lot of blogs I just never have the time to read anymore.
So often at your favorite BBQ place they offer mac and cheese as a side dish to go with your meal. I always get a pulled pork sandwich and sometimes my side is mac and cheese. One day when the two mixed I decided why not just throw them together the next time I make mac and cheese? So I did. Keep reading for BBQ Pulled Pork Macaroni and Cheese....
So before Christmas FoodSaver Canada asked me if I wanted to get a FoodSaver from them. I have always wanted one but I just never pulled the trigger because of the price. Well after having it for almost 8 weeks now I can tell you that was a dumb move on my part because it’s probably saved me already in money what it would have cost me. (FYI yep FoodSaver Canada did give me a free one but I boug
I’ll admit I was never one for Valentine’s Day as a general rule. I don’t think it’s fair to men (it’s not) and it is a made up holiday. Guys usually are very happy to hear that you are not that into Valentine’s Day because it saves them money. I figured I would always be that way. Turns out I was wrong. Keep reading for Valentine Vanilla Heart Pound Cake with Strawberry Milk Glaze...
So I will admit that ever since Kristen packed her knives and went I have been not as interested in Top Chef Seattle. I’m happy that she is still kicking butt in Last Chance Kitchen but I’m bitter about it all the same. Like bad arugula bitter. If she doesn’t win I guess I will be routing for Josh because of how much he likes and uses bacon.
So I had planned on writing some great post and that didn’t happen. Instead I went to work on a project for Tablespoon but clearly didn’t not think things through because I needed to open a jar of jam. Which sounds harmless enough except that it’s like THE number one thing I can’t do with my hand and I learned I have not mastered opening with the left hand. Keep reading for Bacon Cheddar Ale C
We had a CRAZY busy weekend this weekend. Friday was MDP’s 40th birthday. The skids came over and we took him to our new favorite place to eat and inhaled food (I had the Peanut Butter Bacon Burger which may sound gross to you but is totally awesome). Then we were off to hockey to burn that burger off. :) Keep reading for Birthday Cake Caramel Corn....
