Last week I promised you Twelve Days of Christmas Recipes. And damn it, I don’t go back on my word! But sometimes I have these wonderful ideas and then when I try to execute them, I realize how big I dream. I’m not going to give you a Partridge and Pear recipe. Given, this is probably the easiest day to follow the song. I don’t really know how I would give you a recipe for Twelve Drummers or Eleven Pipers unless we just stuck with butter cookies cut into shapes. So instead, I’m going to share with you the twelve types of things I think are essential for a perfect Christmas, finishing off with my ideal Christmas Eve and Christmas Day menus. How does that sound? All on the same page here? Good.
So after coming up with this plan, along with decorating, gift shopping and toting my tree home on the subway (don’t worry, it’s only 2 1/2 feet tall), I’ve decided the first thing I need for a perfect holiday season–is a drink. Spend a day at the mall or even worse, 5 minutes in the Macy’s in Herald Square, and I’m sure you’ll agree.
Generally I’m not a huge cocktail drinker. I used to be a Vodka girl, back in the day, but now I’m pretty satisfied sipping my Long Island wines or whatever great craft beer I can get my hands on. But for special occasions or an exceptionally rough day, I do make an exception. I prefer my cocktails tart and sour rather than sweet and syrupy. There was a time when fuzzy navels and madori sours ruled my life, but these days, if I want something simple I go for a vodka tonic or vodka cranberry.
I did a lot of research *hiccup* on what cocktail I wanted to represent my perfect holiday season. Surprisingly, I didn’t go the vodka route, but still clung to my tart cranberries. I’d like to introduce you to the Depaz Winter Mojito courtesy of Marie Claire. I do like mojitosm(one of my go to summer cocktails), so I guess I can’t say I hate rum, but it certainly isn’t the first thing ingredient I think of when craving a cocktail. This drink has all the elements of a classic mojito, including the tart liminess I crave plus cranberries–perfect for the holidays! My only concern with this cocktail is the instructions tell you to mix all, shake and serve. To really bring out the cranberry flavor, I would muddle or crush the mint and berries just a bit before mixing.

- 8-10 mint leaves
