Nestled in the trendy foodie area of Rosebery, Da Mario brings the best of Italian food to the Eastern Suburbs with it’s traditional wood fire pizzas and mouthwatering pastas.
Afettato Misto 24
We started with a selection of imported and local cured meats with sharp pickles. This brought me back to my travels to Italy, sitting outside a local deli sampling their finest cures. The soft fresh-baked strips of dough are prefect for wrapping a slice of prosciutto or mortadella around.
This is a very simple pizza but easily one of our favourite. Thinly sliced potato adorns a white base pizza with sea salt and rosemary. That’s it, and it’s fantastic. For something so simple to be so good is a testament to how well these guys are doing. We washed this down with a cheeky Aperol Spritz, because hey it’s the weekend and why not!
Tagliatelle Scampi (special)
I never usually go for the specials but this one sounded too good to pass up. Fresh tagliatelle tossed in a creamy potato sauce with grilled scampi. The flavour of this dish was superb and the scampi meat just melted in the mouth. If it’s ever on the specials board again, I highly suggest you take up that offer.
This plate of thinly sliced beef eye fillet was like eating meaty silk. So soft and tender the flavour of the beef was accentuated by a scattering of black olives, hearts of palm and lemon.
Tagliatelle al Ragu 25
My favourite dish of the night was the fresh tagliatelle with pork and veal ragu and parmesan. I truly can’t resist a good plate of pasta and for good reason. Rich tomato and meat sauce perfectly lathers the pasta making every twirl and every bite a comforting reminder of the homeland.
A perfect ending to a perfect meal. Each spoonful of this Italian classic was heaven. The pick-me-up coffee flavour mixed with the fresh mascarpone, soft sponge finger and bitter chocolate is a winning combination.
I honestly have a fantastic meal everytime I come to Da Mario, and it’s easy to see from the packed tables that a lot of people agree. Perfect for any occasion, they cater to large and small groups with ease. Definitely think about them for your next meal out.
