Italian Street Kitchen, Neutral Bay

An indoor Italian street fair experience.

Neutral Bay has taken their culinary scene up a notch with the addition of Italian Street Kitchen, a restaurant that pays homage to recipes that have trickled down through the generations and from the streets of cities like Venice, Bologna, Naples, and Calabria.

BAKED CHEESE $10

We started with this mouth watering dish of oven baked honey and oregano Caciotella Tre Latti with char-grilled bread. The hot gooey cheese strings melt perfectly to the soft bread making this a dipper to remember.

ARANCINI $2.5 each

One of my favourite starters, these crispy golden rice balls are filled with a mixture of roasted pumpkin, smoked provolone, parmesan and thyme then coated in a panko crumbs for a satisfying crunch. A must try!

SALAMI BOARD (serves 2) $18

If it's drinks and nibbles you're after. To start, I definitely would suggest this meaty board. Layered with Prosciutto, Salami Casalingo, Mortadella, Bresaola, Parmesan, olives and cherry tomato & rosemary focaccia, this is the perfect way to get the appetite burning.

PORK $17

If it's something a little more substantial, then you cant go past their roasted meats. This traditional wood-fire roasted Roman pork belly was deliciously tender and pungent with flavour and a lovely crispy crackling. Served with a fresh rocket or radicchio salad to accompany the rich meat, this meal is an excellent choice.

LAMB $18

Our favourite of the night, the lamb is spit roasted to succulent perfection. Simply seasoned with sea salt, garlic and rosemary this shoulder literally falls apart in the mouth with moreish flavour and soft texture.

GUSTOSA $14

Italian Street Kitchen's wood fire pizzas really are something special. With a crispy yet chewy crust, simple and fresh ingredients it's obvious tradition and quality are key here. This beauty had a winning combo of mozzarella, mushroom, Italian sausage, parmesan and truffle oil. The intoxicating aroma of the truffle hit us the instant the plate hit the table.

RIGATONI AMATRICIANA $15

Our final dish of the night was one of my favourite pasta dishes. Made the proper way with cured pork cheek, pecorino cheese and cherry tomato in Napoli sauce, this rich, comforting pasta is one to fill the belly and leave you with a very content smile on your face.

After opening only recently I was amazed at how quickly locals and the like had taken to this place, filling up quickly for eat in dinner and take away.

A return visit is definitely on the books.
